Disruption is a term used too frequently in the Energy Sector. The industry has faced a lot of disruptions already. Some of them are growing at a pace that is slower than what people associate with disruption, but the effects are still and truly disruptive.Read More
While I have not used Augur personally, the following warning is not unique for Augur. It is a starting industry and coding is a human endeavour. Errors are bound to be made. As long as people using these services are aware of the potential issues, this is all part of stage blockchain is in still.
”An analysis of irregularities discovered in the Augur decentralized prediction market platform has identified a number of design flaws. Namely, it identified a potential attack vector based on discrepancies between a market’s expiry date and its outcome date.” - Augur Prediction Market Platform May Have Design Flaws
Still, commons sense and caution go a long way, so indeed, buyer beware. As with all innovations, it is the balance of risk/reward.
I have been using the Brave Browser for some time now. Initially it was just to play with, but as it gets more stable/robust I keep using it more and more. Advantages of Brave:
- Build in blockers for ads, trackers and other stuff. It saves you time because pages load faster without all that overhead in the back.
- It has a nifty rewards program that allows you to support your favourite websites and blogs using the Basic Attention Token.
- The BAT token also plays a role in rewarding you as a browser for viewing certain ads, though I have yet to experience that.
From a safety and user perspective, I can recommend this browser and it is on par with all the big alternatives. Go check it out!
A funny video I like to share and using the concept of a utility token to an absurd, and therefore hilarious level.
All too often though, I have seen projects twist and turn their wording so that they are not seen as doing an ICO or anything that raises the legal flag. Ultimately, words van only be bent so far, especially when they are in fact doing an ICO for example. Blockchain transparency at its best?
With any Digital domain, it is easy to focus solely on the new technologies and what they can offer. It takes restraint to take a step back, out of that ‘kid in the candy store’-mode, and start with the end-game in mind. What is the ultimate goal you or your organisation is trying to achieve? This also provides room to implement the human perspective in such a digital transformation, something that is too often overlooked and leads to project failures.
“Fundamentally, it’s because most digital technologies provide possibilities for efficiency gains and customer intimacy. But if people lack the right mindset to change and the current organizational practices are flawed, DT will simply magnify those flaws.” - HBR - Digital Transformation Is Not About Technology
If you develop innovations for machines or robots, go ahead and skip the human part. If the success of your project depends on humans using it, consider their role and ask for their feedback early and often.
