The new BMW i8 has been spotted in a London sales store at Park Lane. The BMW i8 is the bigger brother of the i3 and they are the first officially announced vehicles that BMW will launch under their i-brand. The i3 is the full electric model aimed at urban/city transport, while the i8 is a hybrid is a much sportier sedan and was starring in one movie already.
The i3 is expected next year (2013) and the i8 the year after, but in a London sales store they already have a set of these new BMW models on display. On top of that, the combustion engine from the i8 is likely to be manufactured in the UK as well, at the factory near Birmingham. The factory has already produced over three million BMW and Mini engines since 2001. According to Automotive News Europe the price tag for this i8 will be over €100.000.
For now, we will have to go and see the i8 at the London Park Lane sales store, or in one of the many locations where BMWi will run demos and promotional activities with the vehicle. BMWi is running promotional campaigns at mayor cities around the world, but also at unspecified holiday destinations.
All in all, I think the i3 and the i8 are stunningly looking cars and I can't wait to get my hands on their steering wheels. It's too bad I don't have any plans to visit London soon, but if anyone is close by, please let me know what you think of the car after you have seen it.
