Satoshi Radio

I was invited to discuss blockchain in the energy sector on Satoshi Radio! It is a Dutch podcast by two friendly and curious guys in the Dutch blockchain space; Bart Mol and Wijnand Luitjes. It was a great interview where they really probed on how the energy system (in The Netherlands) works and sometimes digging beyond what my level of understanding is.

If you want to listen to the 1,5 hour podcast, you can do so using your favourite podcasting app via Satoshi Radio.

It was fun to be a guest on this podcast, as this is something I have been pondering of starting on my own as well. Good to see the love, patience and grit required to keep up with a weekly podcast! If you have tips on how to start this, I’d love to hear more!

ABN - Blockchain & Energy Presentation

Last week I was invited by ABN to give a presentation explaining how blockchain can be applied in the energy industry. A nice session with a mix of people who are well versed in blockchain and some others who do not have a daily interaction with this type of technology.

I always enjoy a fresh perspective from the questions afterwards; it is interesting to see what questions come up from a bank’s perspective. This cross pollination across different industries can truly foster nice collaborations and learning experiences.

Interested to hear more on this or discuss what blockchain can do for your industry? Please do get in touch.

Mentoring at Rockstart

Last week I became a mentor for startups in Rockstart! A cool opportunity to help startups grow and, get to grow my network and share my experience within the Rockstart ecosystem.

Rockstart is a startup accelerator, launched in 2011 and has an office in Amsterdam. Within their Smart Energy domain the host a program for a number of startups to coach them to greatness. From my role at Eneco I have been in contact with Rockstart and a number of the startups in their program over the years. I have always found the program to be well developed and thought through. The startups that were admitted are of good quality and ambitious and always good sparring partners. It is nice I can do this in return for the program and can get more involved at the same time.

In Memoriam: Wubbo Ockels

Space & Physics

Wubbo Ockels passed away recently, a childhood hero of mine is gone. I first saw him in the news when he was 'our' astronaut in space. It instilled in me the desire to become an astronaut as well when I was 5 or so in that time. I ended up studying physics like him, but that was not really because of him (I believe).

It was his time out in space that made him realize the vulnerability of our little blue planet. After he returned he became active in preserving our earth and has headed various initiatives for sustainable energy.

"We are all astronauts on spaceship earth" - Wubbo Ockels

After his return from space Wubbo is a changed man; realising how fragile our earthly existence is he gets involved in protecting our planet, from us. He gets involved with sustainable energy and a variety of other initiatives. His words 'We are all astronauts of spaceship earth' are legendary.

Happy Energy

His last letter stroke a chord with me; his initiative of Happy Energy. He almost called it a religion, for its inclusion of everybody on this planet. It is a matter which affects us all here, truly asking for a united approach from each and everyone of us.

Rest in Peace

May he rest in peace, for he inspired many of us. May we realise his vision sooner, rather than later, for we still live here on this magnificent planet.
