30.000!

The latest data from the electric vehicle registrations are in, we have had a monstrous december in 2013, breaking through 30.000 electric vehicles! That is almost double the number of november, what happened?

That hockeystick is getting steeper every month.

Almost doubling within a month, four times within a year!

All the reason to be happy, but it is also logical this incredible surge happened. As per the 1st of january some attractive tax breaks have dropped while others have become less. In order to maximize the benefit, people had to get their electric car before the end of the year. Still, this is impressive to see. I expect a lower uptake the next few months as some registrations have been done months earlier now.

Also an impressive growth percentage of 147% compared to the previous month.

Top 5 Registered

The top 5 has gone through some changes, a new leader and the introduction of the Model S now becomes visible here even. I'd be interested to see the other data of all the other models before they make it to the top 5 and see how that developped in more detail over time.

The supreme rule of the Opel Ampera is over and the Tesla Model S calls in at spot number five.

Did we just get all Outlanders from the production line here?

A huge stride forward for Mitsubishi with their Outlander and also Volvo did great business last month. Followed by long time favourite the Opel Ampera, then the Prius Plug-In and another new entry for the Model S.

The Rise of the EREV

Regular readers have seen my posts with the data from Agentschap NL on the electric vehicle statistics for the Netherlands. I've recently toyed with a new App by the name of Perspective on the iPad with that data and crafted a little animation from that very same data. This short video clearly shows how quickly the EREVs have taken over the electric vehicle market here in the Netherlands. The initial 1000 pure EVs that were present in the Netherlands took well over a year, maybe two to achieve. The EREV and mainly the Opel Ampera has overtaken the number of EVs in less than a year already.

Perspective

For this post I used the Perspective App from Plixxa - a new tool on my iPad.

The Opel Ampera gets the same tax benefits as the other electric vehicles (0% tax and some other great benefits for companies and entrepreneurs). This also shows the huge impact of such measures on the adoption of a new technology and the role of an EREV as a bridge between the current ICE technology and the EVs. Change is ok, but preferably not too big steps at a time?

What are your thoughts on this? Is anybody else familiar with the Perspective App already? Would love to share tips on that as well.
