You were happily running your energy company. You thought that everything was running smoothly. Until it did not. What did you miss on the radar?

You were happily running your energy company. Your innovation projects were happily running on schedule, and you thought that everything was running smoothly. Until it did not. And you hit a snag. A snag you had not prepared for and that you did not see coming. An opportunity you have not identified. Have you been sleeping on the job? Or could you have done things differently?

The time you spend on running the business is time not spend on looking ahead. With your focus on the operation, it is natural that the world outside of that scope remains unnoticed. The beauty of focus is that it is specific, not trying to take notice of every detail of the world. Should you attempt to do it all and be a 'Jack of all Trades'?

Jack of all Trades?

Running a business takes many different skills, and you can be known as a 'Jack of all Trades', but as the saying goes, master none of them. When your company is large enough, you hire specialists that are masters in specific trades to do those particular tasks in which they excel. Running and operating the business is not the same as innovating your business; it is a different horizon you have to deal with.

How can you get help with this? With your focus on the operations of your energy business, how can you delegate the looking ahead for opportunities and threats efficiently? Who cannot only spot those opportunities but also clarify what this means for your energy business? Ideally, a person who can also tell you what steps to take or what projects to pursue first.

With 15 years of experience in the energy industry and numerous innovation projects in both a corporate and startup setting, I have a thorough understanding of how to make innovation happen in the energy industry. I study abstract concepts from Blockchain to AI. As a consultant, I translate that into actionable steps to tackle today for an energy company. As a Product Owner, I help you with implementing those technologies in your projects.

Be the Radar, or Build the Radar?

To make sure that technological developments are not missed and show up in time on your radar, you, therefore, have two options:

  1. You look ahead yourself, scan what is ahead and asses it all the incoming information. Ideal if you have the time and energy, immense talent to grasp both running a business and translating the future to today.

  2. You get external help to be the radar for you. Let an expert show you what is coming. Let an expert advise you on what roads to take and what best fits your energy company.

If you want to go with option one and could use some coaching, let me know how I can help you best. If you're going with option two, I'd be happy to tailor an offer for your needs and be that radar for you.
