Programmable Trust Issues

Blockchain technology can facilitate ‘programmable trust’. An attractive proposition, how has more trust ever been wrong?

Blockchain technology can facilitate ‘programmable trust’. An attractive proposition, how has more trust ever been wrong? But this offer easily blinds you. It prevents you from seeing the actual problem you are trying to solve. Instead, you are targeting the symptoms. I’ll share some insights from what I learned discussing numerous blockchain projects over the past few years.

Testing the Waters

Testing the waters is done in small steps. No company is going to be the house, desiring to check if blockchain is right for them. Smaller steps and smaller scope reduce the risk. But don’t take the steps too little: A blockchain network consisting of one node. A case in point I’ve come across several times now, I’d be happy to share with you: The One Node Blockchain Projects.

The One Node Blockchain Projects

You’ve decided to try a blockchain project. And you want to build this platform, running on your blockchain. And this platform will run on your server. Running on your one, single node.

If you want a blockchain project for yourself; you have trust issues. Blockchain will not help you. If you have trust issues with yourself, try a psychiatrist.

Expand and Grow

Instead, try to look for partners to expand the node network. These partners could be external, like suppliers or other stakeholders in the same supply chain. These partners could be internal, where you will have a node for each internal department involved. You are no longer aiming for trust, but this might gain you some efficiency by working with a single source of truth, for example.
