Nearly 50% of ICOs Failed?

Given that the rate for actual succes with startups is rather low, is it really a surprise to see that the succes rate for ‘ideas’ is not nearing 100%? I believe from various studies that around 1 in every 10 startups achieves a reasonable level of succes.

“According to the recent research, nearly a half (46%, if we need to be more precise) of them failed to raise any funds in 2017 and 2018. This study was conducted by a consulting and research company called GreySpark Partners”

From: “Nearly 50% of ICOs Failed, Report Claims”

With most ICO’s being a test to gauge interest in an idea (white paper, website, no working product), I am surprised to see that so many actually manage to raise more than $1 million. I think a big factor there has been the ICO FOMO more than anything else really.

‘Just Like an Email’

Personally I think this is the best explanation of Bitcoin I have seen ever. Not because it is the most detailed, complete and accurate, but mostly for its sheer simplicity. If you haven’t heard from Andreas Antonopoulos before, be sure to follow him.

“This is a form of money that only exists in a digital form and it can be sent and received just like an email.”

Energeia Energy Day 2018 - Work to be done?

Last week I spoke at the Energeia Energy Day on our Blockchain project for the District Heating system. The Energeia Energy Day is an annual event, aimed at everybody involved within the energy industry.

It was a good opportunity to share our experience with a Blockchain project, though looking at the entire agenda of the conference you’d say that Blockchain is not top of mind for everybody yet; a different picture if you see the various initiatives globally though. A lot of work is still to be done to show the potential and added value of Blockchain in the industry, also considering the often heard question aimed at the energy consumption of Bitcoin. I’m looking forward to more of such sessions, educating people as I go and adding to the list of projects that can show working examples to the world.

Venture Cafe Rotterdam - SBIR "Blockchain Warmterotonde"

After having completed our Blockchain prototype for a district heating application with our partner CGI, it is time to show it to the world and tell about it. Tonight the Venture Cafe in Rotterdam hosts a session where all four parties who are part of the SBIR program in Rotterdam will demo their prototype. Exicted to be there!
